A long, rich history, local artists, interesting folklore and the Coady International Institute all combine to make Antigonish one of the cultural centres of Atlantic Canada.

The Coady International Institute

Canadians travelling in some parts of the world may be surprised to discover that Antigonish is as well known as such "world-class" destinations as Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver. This reputation can be attributed in part to the presence of the The Coady International Institute on the campus of St. Francis Xavier University.

Antigonish Heritage Museum

The Antigonish Heritage Museum is a community museum that strives to preserve and promote a cultural understanding of the heritage of Antigonish Town and County. Housed in the former CN Rail Station building, it is located at the east end of Main Street in the Town of Antigonish. The museum features two main display rooms with exhibits that depict the history and material culture of our area.

Churches

The Town of Antigonish, and surrounding county, have many beautiful churches of various denominations. Rich in architectural design and enhanced by stained glass windows, many of the picturesque structures date back to the late 1800s.

Local Artists and Galleries

Antigonish is considered the cultural centre of the Northern shore of Nova Scotia and is well known for its fine crafts and visual arts.
