Town Extends Closure to the Public

The Town of Antigonish is announcing that the closure of Town Hall and the Public Works Building will be extended until further notice. The decision to extend these closures was based on directives set by the Province of Nova Scotia and public health officials on the continued spread of COVID-19.

The Town assures residents that there will be no disruption to essential services, which include power, water, sewer, curbside pick-up and any winter maintenance that may be required. The Town completely understands that we are all dealing with difficult times that puts a lot of financial stress on individuals. The Town is committed to working with residents to be flexible on options for bill payments. Residents who have outstanding service payments owed to the Town can pay online or phone 902-863-2351 and press 0 to speak with a staff person during regular business hours.

Additionally, residents are reminded that the Skatepark, Columbus Field, Chisholm Park, Central Field and the Challenge Baseball Field are closed. RCMP have the discretion to fine any residents using these facilities. The Landing Trail remains open for public use; however, residents must follow physical distancing rules and stay 2 meters/6 feet apart and groups of 5 or more are not permitted.

The Town of Antigonish remains committed to serving the residents of Antigonish. Town staff are working from home and are prepared to assist you with any of your needs or answer your questions. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Eastern District Planning Commission is working to continue to provide services in a timely and safe manner. While their offices remain closed, they are continuing to receive applications, process files, issue permits and complete inspections. Applications can continue to be received by mail and inspections can be arranged. If you have any questions, please contact the EDPC Office directly at 902-625-5361.

The ability to flatten the spread of COVID-19 rests on our actions. We all have a responsibility and part to play in supporting and protecting our front-line workers in hospitals, emergency response, grocery stores, banks, long-term care homes, post office, gas stations, restaurants, food banks, as well as delivery drivers, maintenance and support staff who are an essential part of keeping our community functioning as well as it has been.

Sincerely,

Jeff Lawrence
