Town of Antigonish Dog Control Services responds to dog-related public safety and nuisance issues, in accordance with the Dog Control By-law. Enforcement and public education are performed by the Town of Antigonish Dog Control Officer which provides important dog-related services, such as registering dog tags and sheltering dogs impounded under the Town of Antigonish Dog Control Bylaw. Dog Control works closely with the local SPCA who works through adoptions to find new homes for impounded dogs that have not been claimed by their owners.

- We provide registered tags for dogs residing in the Town of Antigonish.

How do I purchase registered dog tags?
The Town provides registered dog tags for pet owners. Registered tags can be purchased at Town Hall located at 274 Main Street, Antigonish. The fee for such registration will be $25.00 and is good for the life of the dog; a dog tag will be issued upon receipt of the fee. Each dog tag has a unique number. If your dog is lost and then is found, the Town can search for the owner's contact information associated with the registered tag.

What are my responsibilities as a Dog Owners?
Dog owners must keep their dogs under effective restraint or control at all times and specifically, this shall mean that the following conditions must always apply: a dog must be tied in such a way that it cannot leave the owner’s premises, or a dog may be restrained through the use of caging or fencing so that the dog cannot leave the owner’s premises, or a dog shall only be permitted to leave the owner’s premises when it is leashed and under the effective control of a responsible person. It shall be an offence under the Town of Antigonish Dog Control By-Law for the owner of any dog to allow such dog to; run at large; create a disturbance by barking or howling; not be registered and accordance with the Town of Antigonish Dog Control By-Law; attack someone or damage or destroy someone’s property; Defecate anywhere except on the owner’s premises and not cause such defecation to be removed immediately.
