The Town of Antigonish will be undertaking major work to replace a leaking water valve near the Whidden Street Bridge, at the entrance to Chisholm Park on Sunday, June 2.
Work will begin at 10 p.m. Sunday night and work is expected to go into Monday, June 3. The work will continue until the repair is complete.
To replace this leak, a water service disruption will be required to a large area impacting many residents and businesses. During this work period, residents in the following areas and surrounding streets, may experience low to no water pressure and/or water discoloration:
- West Street (James St to Highland Drive)
- Main Street (St Ninian St Street to Shoppers Drug Mart)
- Hawthorne Street (Main Street to Brookland Street) and connected side streets
- Ninian Street (Highland Drive to Hillcrest Street)
- Braemore Avenue (Highland Drive to Archie Street) and connected side streets
- Highland Drive (St. Ninian Street to Fairview Street) and connected side streets
- James Street (SuperSuds to West Street)
- Fairview Street
In addition to the water shut off, there will be a street closure from St. Ninian Street (Cairn Park) to the intersection of Main Street and Hawthorne Street. Traffic control measures will be in place with a detour of the work area and nearby sidewalk closures. Motorists and pedestrians are requested to please use caution when approaching the area.
We apologize for the inconvenience this work may cause and appreciate your patience as we complete the repair.
