Crews have been working through August to complete the next section of the Active Transportation Trail along St. Ninian Street.
Since work began in late July, there have been a number of new pedestrian ramps installed from Church Street to the Highland Drive intersection. The Town of Antigonish Public Works has been on site to coordinate underground work that will enable a more level pathway long term. The most visible change so far is the widening of the previous sidewalk's path to prepare for the multi-use asphalt AT Trail.
Safety on site
Sidewalk disruptions along the StFX campus side of the street will continue until work is complete, with signs and traffic control in place to provide safe crossing zones through the construction. As we enter the return to school season, pedestrians are encouraged to follow posted signage and guidance from on-site traffic control personnel when crossing through the construction zone. Vehicle traffic will mostly remain one-way to support a safe environment for crews and pedestrians.
New this week
This week included building curb along many stretches of St. Ninian Street. This work is completed with the help of a curb machine and crew members who manually build curbs closer to intersections and shape curb cuts at driveways.
Coming up next
In the coming weeks, asphalt is expected to be installed, which will bring us closer to completing this section of the AT Trail.
