Throughout the day the Town has been working with Provincial Emergency Management, the Town Electric Utility, and Electrical Inspectors to identify which residents of Indian Gardens Trailer Park will be able to return home. The Town is in the process of contacting those residents directly. The Town will require residents to provide ID and signature before re-entry to their home is permitted.
The Town’s By-Law Officers will be onsite with a list of civic addresses where re-entry is permitted. By-Law will be onsite until 9 p.m. this evening.
The Town will be hosting a meeting Thursday, November 25 at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Room at the People’s Place Library for residents who are still evacuated The Town is working on contacting those residents unable to return home to make them aware of the meeting. Transportation will be provided from the Mircotel Inn & Suites by Antigonish Community Transit starting at 9:50 a.m.
The Town is working to set up home inspections for those homes where water has entered the residence. The Town will be in contact with those individuals to set up a time for inspection. The inspection must be completed before occupancy can be granted. As part of the inspection the homeowner will be required to provide viewing access underneath the home. Once the inspections have been completed the reports will be given to the homeowners and EMO for proper follow-up.

Please be advised of the following update for residents of Indian Garden Trailer Park:
Out of an abundance of caution, the Town turned off the power to the area on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 23. Based on a visual assessment conducted by the Town, the following homes will have the electrical hook-ups reconnected starting the afternoon of Wednesday, November 24.
1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 18, 19, 20, 25, 29
The remaining homes will have to have an inspection done before power can be reconnected. The Town is currently working on arranging for these inspections to happen as quickly as possible. Those homes that require inspections include:
15, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 28, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 36, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 47
Town and County staff are meeting with Provincial EMO representatives to determine the next steps to support the individuals who require resources and support. Once information is available, the information will be shared with residents.
The Town is working with the Red Cross on a plan to support the receiving and distribution of donations. More details will be available soon.

Please be advised the Red Cross is no longer at the Antigonish Farmers’ Market. Residents who require assistance should phone the RCMP who will contact the Red Cross directly if required.
The Town will share updates tomorrow on any further assistance being provided to residents who have been displaced due to flooding.
If residents have any reports of damage to Town infrastructure can contact Town Hall tomorrow morning starting at 8:30 a.m.

Update as of 5 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.
The RCMP initiated the evacuation of residents living in Indian Gardens Trailer Court. The Red Cross will be managing shelter accommodations for these residents. Antigonish County Rescue was onsite supporting the evacuation activities and Antigonish Community Transit helped transport residents. The Town and County are working with the Red Cross on hosting a temporary space until shelter accommodations are available.
The Antigonish Farmers’ Market building has been identified as the space for residents to go if they have been displaced. This is only if residents are unable to stay in their home due to flooding.
Antigonish Farmers’ Market is located at 20 Exhibition Lane, off of James Street near the Antigonish Arena.
Residents are advised to go directly to the Farmers’ Market Building to register with The Red Cross. Once registered The Red Cross can provide the information and resources needed.
