AT, by definition, is any form of self-propelled (non-motorized) transportation. AT is mostly about walking, running and cycling, but can include other modes of human-powered transport such as in-line skating and skateboarding. AT can generally occur in both on-road and off-road locations.
This new plan will expand on work already completed to date, including the popular Antigonish Landing Trail, and will result in the drafting of action plans and policy recommendations designed to make walking and cycling more comfortable and enjoyable for all residents.
The planning process will have several components, as outlined below:
- A public on-line survey
- Field analysis and a background review and update previous planning efforts
- Public meetings
- Development of a strategic plan and design guidelines.
In December, the first component of this study is being inaugurated, an online survey of residents’ transportation activity, needs and ideas. A series of stakeholder consultations will also be undertaken, followed by public meetings in the New Year. The firm of MMM Group will be providing professional and technical support for this plan, under the auspices of the Recreation Departments of the Town and County.
Residents are invited to get involved in this process. The bottom of this page contains contact information, as well as a Web address where you can find more details about the Active Transportation Plan and related information. Over the next few weeks, the date for the public meetings will be confirmed. Please contact us at one of the numbers or E-mail addresses shown below to share your ideas. Please note: this project is not the same as the Public Transit Study currently being conducted.
Please share your ideas with us by taking a few minutes to complete Antigonish Town & County's Active Transportation SURVEY. By completing the survey, you will be given the opportunity to enter your name into a prize draw for a $100 pre-paid gift card.
