The Town of Antigonish understands the growing concerns that residents may have regarding COVID-19, especially as it changes our daily routines and future plans.
The Town is closely following updates from our provincial and federal partners to prepare and respond accordingly. The Town is in regular contact with the Municipality of the County of Antigonish, StFX, Paqtnkek First Nation, Nova Scotia Emergency Management Office, our local first responders, RCMP and long-term care facilities to proactively prepare and respond accordingly to the potential impacts of COVID-19 in our community.
After careful consideration Town Hall will be closing to the public on Tuesday, March 17 and re-opening on Monday, April 6 for regular business hours. As a result, all recreation programming for youth and seniors is postponed for the foreseeable future. Eastern District Planning’s Office Hours are suspended until further notice. For information regarding permits, applications or building inspections, please phone 902-631-3473. Residents are encouraged to pay any service bills online or utilize the secure drop-box at the front door of Town Hall. The Town will be giving an extension for all service payments, tickets or fines until April 13, 2020, with no penalty. Electrical hook-ups and disconnections will be suspended until further notice. For any questions or concerns regarding your service, please phone 902-863-2351 and press 0 to speak with a staff person.
The Town assures residents that there will be no disruption to essential services, which include power, water, sewer, solid waste management, plowing, salting and any other winter maintenance that may be required.
A reminder, if you develop a fever of 38°C please remain in your home and call 811 for assistance. Please follow the directions given to you by 811.
In times of uncertainty, we should offer our kindness, compassion and support to one another. It is important to think of your community and what you can do to ensure the health and safety of your family and neighbours. If you are feeling well and able, please check on your neighbours by calling, texting or emailing to ensure they have the supplies they need to be safe and comfortable.
The Town is following the best practice approach set forward by the Province of Nova Scotia and public health officials.
