On Monday, March 20, 2023 Antigonish Town Council gave First Reading to the new Private Hydrant By-Law and Private Hydrant Policy.

The proposed by-law does not supersede any provincial or national regulations for fire hydrants or fire protection. The intention is for the by-law to be interpreted alongside the National Fire Protection Standard 25. The by-law is a matter of safety and protecting the well-being of our community. If a Fire Department arrives on scene, they need to know all hydrants are properly serviced and maintained in the event they are ever needed for an emergency.
