The Town of Antigonish would like to inform residents that essential aeration maintenance work is currently underway at the front end of the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). Over the next three weeks, consultants and contractors will be working to clean, de-rag, and service approximately 72 aerators to improve oxygen transfer efficiency and address wear and tear from the winter months.

Each aerator is expected to be encased in a 3-ft diameter rag ball, which will be removed, transported to shore, and properly disposed of. This work is necessary to ensure the continued efficiency and reliability of our wastewater treatment system, preventing future operational issues.

While efforts will be made to minimize odors, some temporary odor may be present as debris is removed. This work is being done now, while temperatures are low, to reduce odor impact and prevent issues later in the summer.
