Stroll Main Street Antigonish offers fun for the whole family. Come and enjoy entertainment, music, dance, great food, plus experience the many qualities that Antigonish has to offer.Sponsored by the Antigonish Downtown Business Association, the Highland Games Street Fair will take place on Thursday July 6th, from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM on Main Street Antigonish, during the Highland Games Week.
Main Street will be closed to traffic from Hawthorne to Church Street. A street map will help you find where areas are located. The numbers on the map are the civic addresses. Now in its seventh year, the street fair draws visitors from all parts of the province and country. One of the fastest growing festivals in our region, this event is a great opportunity for businesses, vendors, artisans, and entertainers to participate and market their products or services. With100 vendors registered for the event, some are coming as far away as Halifax, Sydney and parts of PEI and New Brunswick.
The Street Fair offers fun for families with something for all ages. There is a great lineup of events. This year for the first time we will have a Classic Car Show right on Main St co-sponsored by the Pictou County Antique Car Club with over 50 antique cars on display. Other features within the Street Fair will include displays by Riverside Speedway, a virtual hockey booth, outdoor adventure equipment, highland dancers, wine and beer tasting and to mark our country's birthday, a 150 ft. long Canada 150 banner painted on the street in front of the Town Hall. Two stages of entertainment will be located on the Main St with a great line up of performers. The Antigonish Highland Dancers and Maureen Fraser’s School of Dance will be performing on the Aphrodite Stage. On the RBC Royal Bank stage there will be great entertainment by Mary Lou Carter and Colin Grant followed by a performance with Brian England.
Antigonish Community Transit is teaming up with the Street Fair committee to reduce traffic congestion during the event. Dale Bogle, General Manager of Community Transit has confirmed that a designated 16 passenger van will provide free shuttle service for the general public between Market Square Mall and Main St during the Street Fair on July 6th. The service will begin at 9 am at Market Square and leave for Main St every 15 minutes until the Street Fair finishes at 3 pm.
