We are aware of the odor coming from the Town’s Sewage Treatment Plant and want to assure you that we are closely monitoring the situation. Our team is conducting regular site visits to ensure all aspects of the plant are operating as they should. All aeration equipment is running at maximum capacity, and we have not experienced any shutdowns or equipment failures.
Given the nature of the plant, which treats waste through a biological process, sudden changes in weather or population—such as the departure of thousands of residents in the Spring and the arrival of thousands of residents in the Fall—can sometimes result in odors as the biomass levels adjust. While the odor is unpleasant, it is not harmful.
The cool weather expected over the next few days should help with the odor. We have also purchased products to assist in breaking down the odor-producing compounds and expect the smell will dissipate by mid next week.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to manage this issue.
