The Engineering Department is responsible for providing both engineering services to the Town as well as having responsibility over Public Works, the Water Treatment and Sanitary Sewage treatment facilities and the residential solid waste management program.

As Town Engineer and Director of Public Works, Ken Proctor, P. Eng., has overall responsibility for all functions of the Engineering and Public Works Departments, the Treatment Facilities, and Sold Waste Management as well as the statutory requirements as town engineer under the Nova Scotia Municipal Government Act.

The Engineering Department operates from the second floor of the Town Hall. From this location, engineering works to provide the citizens of Antigonish Town with a wide variety of public services including: 

  • Environmental compliance and reporting for the water utility and sanitary sewage treatment,
  • Management and maintenance of town infrastructure, 
  • Coordination of residential solid waste collection and snow clearing operations.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have included here answers to some frequently asked questions regarding Enginering, Public Works and Water & Sewer Treatment facilities. If you have additional questions, do not hesitate to contact the engineering department.

Do I require a MSP? . Yes if you are renovating interior plumbing that results in increased hydralic loads.

  • Yes if you a are working on exterior domestic water services, existing footing drain tiles, installation and/or upgrades to sprinkler lines. 
  • Yes if you are working on sanitary sewer laterals.
  • Yes if you are working on storm sewer laterals. 
  • Yes if you are making changes to driveway entrances.
  • How long will it take to get my permit approved? Approval depends on the extent of submitted information, if uncompleted 3-5 days of longer if follow-ups are requried for information. If the information is complete usually a 1-3 day turn around.
  • Are there costs involved? If you are changing standard features such as increasing the size of your driveway there is a cost associated for curbcut. 
  • Each application is reviewed by the Director of Public Works or designate for residential applications.
  • MSP inspections please provide 24 hr advance notification for PWD.
