Living in Antigonish

Living in Antigonish Featured

Welcome to Antigonish! Quality of life is important, and Antigonish offers something for everyone.

We have a family friendly environment. Antigonish also has a large senior’s population with many choices of residence, care and activities. Our town is safe and inviting for exploring. Getting to know your community best happens through participating in events, volunteering on projects and joining in activities that suit your interests. Head to the Library and talk to the helpful people who will give you individual attention and be happy to guide you to local resources. Pick up a map of the area from the Visitor Information Centre or the Library and explore the town and local environment. The Antigonish Community Transit buses are a good way to get oriented to the area. Visit the Saturday Farmers Market to meet some of our local growers and crafts people. Enjoy the music, chatter and sample our local foods. There is a wide variety of accommodations available from apartments, home ownership or rental and hotels with long term accommodations while you find your new home. For many years Antigonish has entered and done well in the “Communities in Bloom” nationwide competition. Flower baskets and murals are found through the downtown area. Visit the Antigonish Heritage Museum and explore the history of the area. A walk around Antigonish and StFX shows a variety of buildings and homes from the 1800s to the present. The award winning People’s Place Library is a real community hub and centre of activities. Galleries and art studios are open for viewing or joining in if you enjoy making art. Many of the venues have music and entertainment during the week and special events.
